I dropped in at North Rim CrossFit while visiting Chico and had an outstanding experience. Derek coached the Olympic lifting class and gave some of the best instruction I’ve ever had. He didn’t just correct my form — he took the time to break down why each cue mattered, how the movement should feel, and stayed with me until it finally clicked. The method he taught me for the overhead snatch in just one day is something I’ll use for the rest of my lifting life, and I know that if I lived here and trained under him regularly, my progress would jump even more. If you’re local, this is a gym you can truly grow in. Highly recommend.

Elaina does a great job at making the gym a safe space. When I left North Rim years ago, I had built so many bad habits and negative thoughts but coming back I really enjoy the workouts, the judgement free environment, and the tips. She even helped me modify a movement on the fly and I really appreciated it. I am excited to get back into CrossFit and continue to get back to the fitness level that I was, and maybe even farther. She's great at making sure we get a good warm up in and I love the group stretching in the end. Thank you Elaina for making me want to come back every day!
This was my first time at North Rim and coach Elaina was awesome. She took the time to clearly explain each movement and kept the energy high the whole class. I appreciated how she encouraged us to move based on how our bodies felt. She was super encouraging and helped me feel comfortable jumping into a new box. I left feeling challenged but confident. Can’t wait to come back!
This has been a phenomenal experience! The patience and clear instructions that all the coaches at North Rim CrossFit have shown, and continue to show, are wonderful. During every session, they take the time to explain each movement carefully, making sure I understand proper form and technique to avoid injury. They also patiently answer all my questions, no matter how small, which makes me feel supported and confident. The coaches consistently observe my performance, offering helpful adjustments and encouragement that keep me motivated throughout the workout. This level of attention creates a positive atmosphere where I feel challenged but never overwhelmed. Every class leaves me with a sense of accomplishment and excitement for the next one.

Makes class fun and exciting to come to, as well as a fantastic DJ! Incredibly helpful and patient in making sure the workouts are being done with correct form, which as someone who hasn’t done CrossFit before is super beneficial.

Gavin did a great job of “easing me into” the world of CrossFit. As an older participant, remaining injury free is super important - and Gavyn scaled the workouts appropriately so I could ease into them.
My first time doing cardio burn today Elaina explained all the exercises and how to do them with proper technique. Very comfortable environment for all skill levels.

Colleen was great! This was my first class and she made me feel so comfortable and worked with me so the WOD was doable for my level. She encouraged me throughout the whole workout which helped me push through when I felt I wanted to quit. Looking forward to my next class.

Reagan was incredibly welcoming and supportive during my workout. She took the time to help me correct my form to ensure I was moving safely and effectively, which I really appreciated as this was only my second CrossFit session. She explained everything clearly and was both encouraging and motivating throughout. At the end of the workout, she made sure to recognize my effort with some kind words, which really boosted my confidence. I truly appreciate her guidance and positivity!
It was my first day at North Rim, and I don’t know much about CrossFit. We were doing power cleans, and I had no idea how to do them. Derrick helped me the whole way. He showed me warm-ups that were specifically designed to get me ready for power cleans. The warm-ups also broke down the power clean movement into easy steps, which made more sense when I tried the full lift. At one point, when I was going the power cleans I thought I had too much weight on the bar and was going to take some off, but Derrick told me to try again—and I did it! I even added more weight after that. He really helped me not give up, and I felt great afterward. He encouraged me the entire workout and gave me little tips along the way that helped me improve. I didn’t feel embarrassed at all being at a new gym, with new people, and learning new exercises. Derrick also gave me a tour of the gym and motivated me to come back. I’m excited to be back today for another workout!

I went to North rim CrossFit for the first time this week and honestly it was a sweet and memorable experience. The facility and structure of their workouts was so refreshing. Gavyn was patient and clear with their approach to helping me out with my form and encouraging me in the process. I definitely will come back and refer friends :)

She did AWESOME she always is cheering everyone on and explains everything in detail and follows up with any questions people may have! She even adds things to the end of the workouts to create a friendly and competitive environment that is so fun for everyone involved!

Tommy is so encouraging throughout the workout. Motivating everyone to keep pushing through even as it gets tough. He very knowledgeable of the movements and always provides a little extra work for those who want it!
Derrick is a terrific coach! I feel like I have a personal training session every time he coaches the class. When I am struggling with something, he takes time to help me learn the right way to complete the movement, starting with very light equipment. When I have the movement down, he works with me to figure out where to start with a little more weight and build from there. I never feel abandoned to figure it out myself. Derrick watches over me to be sure I don’t try to take on more than I am ready to handle, especially when there are a lot of reps, since I am not yet good at knowing how the number of reps will affect my performance. The people at this gym are ready to help and encourage, but it doesn’t feel like there is pressure to compete. I am glad I joined North Rim CrossFit!

I dropped into a chill, Saturday partner WOD. Elaina greeted me upon arrival, got me oriented and introduced me to several members. She also facilitated partner selection so I didn’t feel like the kid picked last at recess. The gym is very cool and very clean. All the equipment is in great shape and the rig is big. It seems like a really good community and if I lived here I’m sure I’d join. I highly recommend the gym and Alaina specifically! The Saturday wod was a good sweat but also good recovery after a full week of CrossFit.
Being brand new to crossfit I was extremely intimidated and wasn't sure it was for me. Thanks to Elaina, I have been going for over two months now. She modifies the workouts and shows me multiple alternatives if need be. Always on my side encouraging me to push through. If you’re thinking of trying it, do so you wont regret it.
Great atmosphere very welcoming community, coach partnered with someone so they did not have to do it solo which was awesome to see but even with the aggressive workout found her way around the floor encouraging others, 👏 second time dropping in and both great experiences. Anytime I'm in chico I'll be sure to find my way to a class here.
Derrick is always very thorough with his explanation and walkthrough of the movements. I also have a small injury currently and he was quick to give me alternative movements so that I could still do a version of the workout! Very grateful to be a part of such a supportive CF box!

Being newer to NRCF and group fitness in general it was terrible but the kind of terrible that makes you feel good. Elaina has a wealth of knowledge not only in the CrossFit space but across the fitness spectrum.
